i need to save money

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

I’m writing this out only for public accountability, so i won’t go into details, but will try and answer any questions that come my way. saving money is like changing one’s diet (more on that one soon lol), or heck, anything else in life. It “works” if you’re consistent. We took a Dave Ramsey class over a year ago, and did some great things. We still have remnants of practices in place, but aren’t consistent, i.e. i do a cash flow plan for each paycheck, for example, but don’t completely zero-sum, and don’t go over it consistently with joy as i should.

At any rate, that’s about all the intro i’m gonna give. i’ll be posting my reactions and notes on Ramit’s (of I will Teach You To Be Rich) Save $1000 in 30 days under the “1000k” tag. I’ve a late start so time to get to it.

i eat out quite a bit for lunch, and nearly every day for breakfast. my intent has been to eat in every day for lunch, but i’ll forget, nothing gets made the night before, whatever.

breakfast: avg $3.50 * 5 = 17.5/week

lunch @ 2x/week = $20/week

37.5/week * 4 = 150.

I will save $150 in a month by eating breakfast at home and carrying in lunch every week.
