Disqus is here (or–this post actually has 8 comments)
I went ahead on djp’s advice and installed the Disqus plugin. This better go well–i’ve send >1500 comments from this site to be imported into their system. They should be showing up on the site soon. If it’s tomorrow morning and they’re still not here, I may turn it off.
In other news though–i was able to use ping.fm’s Custom URL support. It’s super simple–ping.fm posts to a URL of your choosing, and i’m extract the “method” and “message” fields, and drop new pings into a local db. my site pulls the info from the DB and gently formats it. it’s an include that i currently have dropped into my main site. Very fresh.
I also went ahead and threw the top navigation band on allpagesofthe site, for consistent navigation. i’m having fun treating my little personal joint as if it were a Real Site. First time in a while i’ve decided to be particularly calculated in how I manage things ’round here. Since I do “Enterprise development” during the day, the site’s a good way to get my fix of Regular Web Dev.
Had to hide this for those who would quickly be offended by the F word. i found the following comment on the following link:

the blog / website is looking sweet bro.
and i feel honoured on the advice taking

no doubt man...you're always on that bleeding edge :)
i'd have to say--a definite advantage to Disqus is stuff like the above.:)

hey thanks for that -- was about to do a test on a new one to make sure it wasn't that new comments weren't working. A smaller Disqus bug that's begging to be fixed (i hate having to think i'm bugging you guys by asking you to fix it--would rather have the ability to do it myself).
Thanks for the response!

There's apparently at least one issue with the new Disqus comments--comment count is incorrect on at least this blog post.
The comment count is off because your permalink URL changed, which is the identifier that associates a blog post with its discussion thread. We can either merge the thread for you or you can leave it alone.

any ETA on a fix? i often make a mistake of going with the default title for my permalink, then end up wanting to change it a second later...didn't want to risk it this time in the case that hasn't been fixed...
Disqus importing is done. So far, aside from the speed of some features, I dig it. Threaded discussions, looks like if you're a disqus user you can keep track of your own comments. And if you've commented here before, you can apparently "claim" your comments. Give it a try!
