busy uploading opentapes

I spent a bit of time getting some opentapes together. I am loving opentape! Seriously, about 2 minutes for setup, then however long it takes to get the music into the right spot (i uploaded directly into the “songs” area). I went ahead and redid music.jonmadison.com — much simpler, and it points to the available opentapes. Here are the list of direct links–i’ll get zshare links up on the page as soon as i feel :)

main page: music.jonmadison.com
DJ Sets – so far 2 of ‘em. Both mostly instrumental, real dope stuff if i may say so myself ;-)
worshipmusic, an album i did a few years back that i finally got around to making available fully for download (outside of purchase from iTunes/emusic/nearly everywhere else as it has been for years).
bore – yep more beats, a joint i did a few years back.

I think this is all to prime me for getting back in the lab and hitting some the MPC pads some more.

Disqus is here (or–this post actually has 8 comments)

I went ahead on djp‘s advice and installed the Disqus plugin. This better go well–i’ve send >1500 comments from this site to be imported into their system. They should be showing up on the site soon. If it’s tomorrow morning and they’re still not here, I may turn it off.

In other news though–i was able to use ping.fm‘s Custom URL support. It’s super simple–ping.fm posts to a URL of your choosing, and i’m extract the “method” and “message” fields, and drop new pings into a local db. my site pulls the info from the DB and gently formats it. it’s an include that i currently have dropped into my main site. Very fresh.

I also went ahead and threw the top navigation band on all pages of the site, for consistent navigation. i’m having fun treating my little personal joint as if it were a Real Site. First time in a while i’ve decided to be particularly calculated in how I manage things ’round here. Since I do “Enterprise development” during the day, the site’s a good way to get my fix of Regular Web Dev.

remember kids–keep your numbers update with your domain registrar

sheesh. lost jonmadison.com for a few minutes. This happened a few years ago with beats.com too for a spell. I do give it to my registrar that you get the 5 day “grace period” before the thing really goes kaput. i nearly thought someone else had grabbed it that quick. (i’ve seen it happen with plenty other domain names i would have thought it wouldn’t). anyway, a few hour later, i’m back for a few more years ;)

redeux (updated)

how rude! I wrote this the same night as having a fun day with the family in honor of my wife joy’s birthday!

happy birthday joy!

now…

i’m in the process of refactoring my sites. please bear with me :) i’ve been on WordPress 2.0 for ages, and just upgraded last evening to 2.6! i’ve removed a buncha crufty plugins, and looking to start from scratch as far as building a theme. i’m in the process of building up my main page (www.jonmadison.com), to feature a bit of my photography, primarily.

i figured now’s as good a time as any, as i’m transitioning back to work in Seattle, my beloved city. I’ve missed working downtown, I’ve missed taking a bus to work, and i’ve missed the folk i’ve worked with. I’ll definitely miss those whom i’m leaving at the moment (can’t think of a group i’ve worked as closely with for so many hours at a time, in a lonnnng time), moving forward by going back and doing some forward work is very exciting. ;-)

recently shot: rachel + katie

k + r, originally uploaded by jon madison.

rachel hit me up on myspace mentioning we should shoot soon–well, i wasn’t doing anything the next day so why not (she lives about 5 houses down:). hit her up, she had a friend along (they were going to a show that night) so we took some time and some pictures :)

i spent a bit of time messing around with remote flash in a tunnel. i need to spend more time on my off camera lighting work, so took this opportunity to do so. also got to break out my reflector for a few shots. my main beef with reflectors is that they make the pictures look too good…like traditional product shots or something. sometimes i’m pleased with that look, but mainly it’s not my cup of tea.

one interesting thing i did was to bring along a handheld spot light (one of those emergency spotlights). it wasn’t fully charged so it led to some interesting lighting situations, particularly here and here.

i nearly lost katie’s glasses–would have been really bad since it was the first time i met her. She found them though…apparently they popped out of my pocket on the way back to the car.
