Photo Friday: Darkness

divorce baby by isaidjon

this weeks theme was tough for a second–while there’s a bit of darkness in my life i’m still shedding, i don’t deal with it much in my work (consciously, that is), so i couldn’t figure what i had, or could do…but that’s the *challenge* part of photo friday…i had done this pic a few days ago and was reluctant to post–primarily ‘cos that “D” word is a tough one for me to swallow, i guess being one who’s a “casualty” of one (in reality, i was so young that it did not consciously effect me, but there’s no doubt there was an effect of not having a father in the house), and one who struggles very hard when tough times come in my own. my heart definitely goes out to those who ended up going down that path–i don’t see how it can be done.

anyway, that’s about all the thought i can muster about that subject without spending a few hours…you’ll have to subscribe to a relationship with me in order to get the Extended Director’s Cut. :)

“transparent” screen xx

"transparent" screen xx by isaidjon

another double exposure with the polaroid spectra.

its tough to pick a favorite camera. there’s always something new to push. i’ve done a bit of these xx’s, some of which will appear in my flickr photo stream, some you’ll have to hang out and see.

in other words–i’ve noted that creative types tend to have obsessive behaviour(s), and trouble with reality from time to time. how i became a husband and a father is beyond me; many times i still feel as if i’m “not ready”…if so then when, though? i think that feeling is a lie.

i am such a loser. i hear that Jesus is for losers, though.

the last of the tunnel shots (for 2 years)

the last of the tunnel shots (for 2 years) by isaidjon

for 2 years, the downtown seattle bus tunnel will be closed, in order to make way for light rail, to come in 2009. (amazingly enough the current tunnel already had tracks laid down–and from what i was told, it was only done in order to get funding for the tunnel, and wasn’t ever adequate for the light rail that’s being planned in the city…look that one up)

surprisingly the streets aren’t running mad with buses; it’s a minor inconvenience. it’s definitely not much worse than it was in chicago, as far as packed buses are concerned.

in fact, my bus stops are closer to my office than before. :)

we’ll see how it works out. definitely the buses are packed on the way home…

in other news, my Yashica Mat is completely on the fritz…it selectively does *not* open the shutter when shutter released is pressed, resulting in several completely black pictures per roll. argh.

self portrait tuesday: spectra double exposure

self p on truck by isaidjon

no, this isn’t a reflection; this is my first double exposure on my polaroid spectra camera, using the faking out double exposure method described in the first paragraph.

mine was a bit different, in that i was able to open the camera without it taking a photo–it didn’t spit out when i flipped the switch up; but only took the next photo when i pressed the button–which is exactly the behaviour i wanted!

this is a picture of a piece of a logo on a truck, with another exposure of myself, while i was explaining to a coworker what i was doing…i wish she wouldn’t have stepped out of the photo after i told her! people always have that reaction, when in fact, i *prefer* them in the photo!

i get teased at work for my obsessive shooting around the office building. i cannot believe that i’m a geek among a bunch of geeks.

watching the hip hop honors on vh1…so far i’m pleasantly surprised! big daddy kane set it off! brother *had* to be tired after he did his thing, but it looked *nice*.

exhausting!

home skate park by isaidjon

on call again this weekend–was awakened around 5:45 with a page from The System…

had to be up kinda early anyway, because we spent the day at safeco field taking pictures for the Cure Autism Now walk — it was a *lot* of fun. I realize just how much i love dealing with people, and how i particularly enjoy the challenge of “directing” people in my photos.

another flickrer, michelle thompson (another muse) was in town, so i went and met some new folk here that she was visiting for a house party (and left some polaroids there!) — real cool peoples, all of them, and thanks for the ribs–they were just *ridiculous*. haven’t had ribs that good in a long minute! snapped a grip of polaroids of michelle (maybe she’ll let me put one up — she was mad fly ;-)

then, to round it off, finally got to go to the hohns after forever, and hang out a bit, although by that time i was completely exhausted. i got to finally see the finished ramp, and people using it (even witnessing the aftermath of a fun accident :).

thanks for the fun, hohns, and thanks for letting us borrow born into brothels…EXCELLENT film. i’m completely into it and must own it.

joy is supposed to bring it back to y’all tomorrow, so heads up ;)
