an observation about work, if you’re a person with kids (okay, well at least me)

i see why women have special books for “getting ahead” in the workplace. they need some for daddies too.

There’s a certain way of talking you pick up when you’re into your kids, more than work (i notice i have no “work” category).

I don’t know who the woman was, but in retrospect, she’s probably a manager. She had a pretty skirt on, so i said “oh that’s cute”. She took it kindly enough, but from the holistic “vibe” i got, i had realized i had made a minor faux-pax in the professional world. You *don’t* tell a lady her skirt “is cute”.

unfortunately for me, i use cute a Whole Lot. It happens. I have 3 kids. When something is cute it’s cute.

Oh well lesson learned. Think a sec before you speak, and when at work, think very hard about compliments anyway.

men don't use "cute" much, so it's UTTERLY CUTE that you do!

yeah. to be completely fair, she wasn't disgusted or anything--in retrospect, i'm thinking she could have possibly been taken aback, and didn't know how to react in a work environment (since perhaps it doesn't happen often?)

  • maybe I'm weird but I would find it completely refreshing if a man said my skirt was 'cute'. seriously. too bad people can't just enjoy a compliment already, y'know?
  • :) I'm sorry that this happened. It really stinks that your friendliness and complimentary-ness gets taken wrong!
