Just Rhythms at the Seattle Vineyard was a gang of fun.

I had a blast at the show last evening! this time there was a $5 charge (all of it donated to the cause of AIDS in Africa)–i don’t think there was one last time, so maybe that’s why there wasn’t as big a turnout (which would be perplexing, really, given the cost & the cause), although there were quite a bit of people there last night. i was blessed by a coworker coming to check it out. that helped make my evening. fun! unfortunately she had *just* miss the drummers that were doing their thing–they were ridiculous just like last time, and amazing to hear these 5 guys sound so thick.

She did get to check some of the action from the BYC and Fraggle Rock crews break dancing. I have not had this much fun djing a set in a while–actually probably since the last show i did at this venue! I’d spent quite a bit of time gathering tracks for this one however, so the soul was flowing…my favorite part had to be the blend of Fila Brazilias “Feathery Legs” with The Clash’s “Radio Clash”…if i was a break dancer, throw in Apache, and i’d be in heaven :) Chris did his thing as well, and admittedly, it would have been cool if the both of us would have worked together beforehand on a routine–i kept “taking over” — but hea was gracious enough to deal with me ;)

speaking of Apache–Iguales did a rendition of Apache, and it was pandemonium! during the break part of apache (you know what part i’m talking about if you know the song…not the beat break but the “verse” portion) — i was so busy loading my camera that i didn’t notice until a little later and looked up, and there were about 8 or 10 of the crew that did this ill synchronized joint during that part–ah you just had to be there…*somebody* got it on tape.

at any rate–i hope that another one of these takes place soon, as i’m ready for the next one! thanks for having me out!

got the roll of cross processed photos back. i’m really digging them. it was such a beautiful day. i can’t afford to do this often, but there’ll be at least 3 more rolls within the next 6 months. :)

i got about 20 more of these to upload.

over the rhine was sold out!

flan!
i was invited by the homie anthony to hang out with him and some friends for dinner, then later go to the over the rhine show at the Tractor Tavern. well…the dinner, at la carta de oaxaca, was *wonderful*. it’s the best mexican i’ve had since i’ve gotten here, with reasonable prices (although the 6 of us admittedly ordered a gang of food). the wait was a little while so anthony and i headed over to sonic boom and i copped the grayskul 12″ “prom quiz” (you happy now jae?!)

everyone else already had advanced tickets–when we got to the tavern, i found out the show was sold out! yikes. oh well; it’s a work night. but dag–no show pix. although i got a few others.

speaking of pix; i got my first 120 negative from the holga back. about 5 of the 16 look like pictures! i’m frankly surprised anything came out. this camera is the most difficult ever to work with! everything that seems to go wrong does–spool getting loose, light leaks, dealing with the weird 120 film. i got tired after the first roll, of dealing with the 120, so i currently have it modded to use 35MM film (joy i had to go into your craft room to complete the rig i hope you don’t mind ;). here goes nothing!

speaking of here goes nothing–i shot a roll of slide film, some shots using my new colorsplash flash. Currently it’s being cross-processed. we’ll see how it turns out.

(all that for a down(ed) database!)

not that it’s a terrible big deal, but there’s so much proprietary software information exposed when you let your exceptions hang out like that. i know some companies are kinda weird about not wanting the public to know that they use such and such software package.

DEVELOPERS/DESIGNERS OF HIGHLY VISIBLE APPS–handle (or plan to) your software exceptions gracefully. if you’re a designing a system from scratch, i’d take a look at a global error handling mechanism. at the very least, Blue Martini has its own top-level exception that *all* exceptions are eventually bubbled up to, and “the architecture” knows to take a BMException (as it’s called) and show a page that you’ve configured.

i just think it’s silly that some site like Blogger would not have something like this in place.

kids and pictures

cousins 28

uploaded from flickr.

joy wanted so badly for a “good” photo in this shoot.

i’d have to say it was a case of unrealistically heavily hightened expectations. :)

women can be funny like that at times, with kids. kinda in the same way guys can be with their wives. :o

these pictures are *perfect* narrations of kids!

in the 20′s, kids appeared to be very still back in the day, wore stiff suits, and looked as if they wanted to kill you. that wasn’t really representative of them. they *had* to stay still, because of long exposing cameras!

i like 2005, where a kid can be a kid in a picture ;)

argh meetup was tonight!

smaller update

road closed on central

uploaded from flickr.

hung out with the homie TJ tonight, so not much of an update. still got a gang of scans to go through–no good bargain on a slide scanner found yet.

i did buy a holga 120 however from glazers (thanks for the tip emma). picking it up tomorrow.
