good medicine – laughter

aight at the risk of being on some Reader’s Digest ish, i have to copy & paste this one ‘cos i thought it was teh h3lla funny

A middle-aged woman had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. While on the operating table, she had a near-death experience. Seeing God, she asked, “Is my time up?” God said, “No, you have another 43 years, two months and eight days to live.”

Upon recovery, the woman decided to stay in the hospital and have a face-lift, liposuction and a tummy tuck. Since she had so much more time to live, she figured she might as well look nicer. After her last operation, she was released from the hospital. While crossing the street on her way home, she was hit and killed by an ambulance.

Arriving in front of God, she demanded, “I thought you said I had another 40 years? Why didn’t you pull me out of the path of that ambulance?”

God replied: “Girl…, I didn’t even recognize you.”

a very ineffective means for pirating mp3′s.

got this to our record label email:

name: [...]
Comments: My name is [...] and I work for Nielsen BDS in New York. We monitor radio airplay for Billboard Magazine and various music industry clients and I’m trying to track down some songs that are getting airplay but which we don’t have encoded into our system. If there’s anyway we could get copy of this song [...] The easiest method is through our secure Virtual Encode website which can be used to upload CD’s or MP3′s directly to our Encoding Department. Or you can easily email me an MP3 of it as well or mail me a copy of the CD or single. Just let me know which method you prefer and I’ll provide details. Thank you for your help with this matter.

hasn’t she heard of file sharing?

double vision episode

wow. haven’t had one of those in i think even a few years. growing up, every once in a while my vision would just go double, and it would scare the crud out of me. i can see OK out of one of each eye, but through both, it felt as if i was crossing my eyes (although my eyes weren’t actually physically crossed–i went to the bathroom to check this time!)

i hadn’t thought about it much because it hadn’t happened in such a long time–but i have a habit of joking to my wife about having a brain tumor (due to several episodes of inexplicable migraines). that’s a terrible joke for sure. i did just find out that double vision could be a *result* of a brain tumor, but i see nothing about it being a symptom…and furthermore this has been happening at least since i was a kid.

while we were en route to tj & jill’s from the vineyard fellowship sunday, we had to pick up some avocados…i spotted a car show going on in the adjacent lot to QFC, and thought “ooh wee i have my slide film in my lomo, let me hit it!” so, i did. enter Pearl. one fancy ride.

bunch of film back, police barricades

got my film back:

  1. 1 crossprocessed 35MM from holga 120 contact sheet
  2. 1 crossprocessed 35MM from Lomo LC-A
  3. 1 35MM holga 120 contact sheet
  4. 1 set of slides roll (unmounted) from holga 120

of all of these, i’m most disappointed with #2. i took a gang of inside shots, at a show no less, into the crowd no lesser, no flash. what the world was i thinking?! it’s already the case that the crossprocessed shots, while saturated with color, tend to come out darker.

the contact sheets are so fresh, if only for the fact that the film exposes on the edges completely due to being in the holga body. it’ll be easy to flatbed scan them.

i hope sometime soon i’ll have a negative/slide scanner to get these 120 transparencies in. some of them came out pretty dope. i’m still learning though. :)

went to pick up a roll @ ivey a little bit ago and the area’s swarming with cops. the ATF was even out. i had no compact flash card so i didn’t get any pics. it was because of the Ressam sentencing.

looks as if they’ve delayed this–now we’ll have at least one more day of police blockades.

Super C-soup the chemist-we’ll miss you rockin the mic!

my boy kurt writes on his thoughts on Super C retiring from rap — he echos many of my sentiments. I’ll write a short paragraph up hopefully as well. This guy was definitely directly responsible for me even turning an ear to any “Christian Hip Hop” back in the day when it was hella corny. Come to think of it, I’m happy to say that much of anything coming out on a label these days actually sounds like it wasn’t put together on music box.

flickr gallery stilted

apparently either flickr made a subtle change in its API, the cache on my flickr gallery is not expiring properly, or flickr gallery has encountered a bug. either way, my local gallery hasn’t updated from my flickr gallery for a few good dozen pictures, and 2 albums. i’ll look into it at some point.

email classics from work

reprinted with forgiveness. ;)

By virtue of being in my cube when nobody else was around, I have been volunteered to remind the team of the 8th floor bake sale this Wednesday.

If you want to participate, just bring in some treats on Wednesday and drop them off at the table by the elevators. I don’t think that they actually have to be something baked, but I haven’t really clarified the requirements. I do know that your treats should be packaged in 50 cent portions, and I have been told, “If you want to sell an entire cake for 50 cents, that your prerogative.” However, I don’t think this would be conducive to actually raising money, so I suggest you divide your cake into smaller portions.

Alternatively, you can participate by purchasing baked goods at the table by the elevators on Wednesday. I haven’t been given a start or end time for this, so I think new treats will be available throughout the morning. It may pay to check back frequently if you desire a high variety of snacks.

Another alternative is to both supply and purchase some treats. I am somewhat tempted to bake a cake, sell the entire thing for 50 cents, purchase it myself, divide it into smaller pieces, and then re-sell those pieces for 50 cents each. But I am not tempted enough to actually do it. It would be nice to say afterwards, “The cake wasn’t so good, but the irony was delicious!” However, I’m not sure the situation would really be ironic.

Apparently, there is a competition between the floors about who can raise the most money. If you are a competitive person, feel free to use this as motivation. Additionally, there is a competition between 860 and 805 over who can raise the most, so there’s some additional motivation. However, you now may be motivated to hope that the other floors raise little money, so our floor will win, while hoping that they raise lots of money so our building will win. How you resolve this conflict is up to you, but I would suggest baking a cake for the other floor’s sales, and then selling the entire cake for 50 cents. This will both help and hurt them. (I don’t know when the other floors sales are, you’ll have to figure that out for yourself.)

Let me know if you have any questions,

-k
