common knowledge-coke, nazis, and automata
while doing some human spidering on the web i came across a most interesting image:

i hadn’t realized coke did such heavy marketing during WWII to the Germans.
actually, there’s apparently lots of information about Coke’s involvement during the war, both in the US and in Nazi Germany.
i guess this was “common knowlege”, but it’s the first i’ve heard of it.
recently, Coke’s come under fire for some new swastika action.
of course the stigma of the swastika is because of the Nazis use of it, less because of any evil associated with the symbol itself. but of course i think you’d hafta be ignorant to not know that now commonly its known for its association with the Nazis, and you should probably be careful if you’re flexing it.
Man, during a meeting at work today, i can’t even remember what we were talking about, but he doodled on a paper, and said “DFA…doesn’t this remind you of DFA?” then mentioned “Automata?” First off, i’m a tad relieved that there’s someone else i’m working with who has taken a course or so in automata, but it also reminds me that the *only* thing i could bring up in my head is that there existed DFA and NFA. One of those “I’ve been meaning to”s is I’ve been meaning to crack open my automata book again and read it. Thanks to his comment he’s gotten me at least thinking about it again, and i’ve pulled out my dusty book to get cracking again on this, to become reacquainted with this “common knowledge” among developers. sheesh.
more reference on the swastika symbol itself (from a buddhist website).
