Perhaps those who are realizing this are either young, and/or not listening to those with experience. In pretty much *every* vocation, we realize that being “good enough” cuts it most of the time. design doesn’t matter at all, if you want to get your point across right then, or make some dough in the immediate…

however, when it comes to standing the test of time, it absolutely *does* matter.

and it’s here where i point to one of my favorite essays of all time: taste for makers.

of course i’m armchairing here; i must have missed something else they were trying to get across.

you lost me on this one homie… are you saying that good design *DOES* matter or what? couldn’t quite follow…

i do understand ya though for the most part… being “good enough” will do it 90% of the time… just ask me!

joe clark probably would be confusing as well, since he seems to be saying about the same thing…

the point is: “design does matter, BUT”. i.e. design really doesn’t matter in the sense of things don’t have to be gorgeous in order to be accepted. for the design geeks, it does matter. at least that’s my summary of what joe clark was saying.

that being said, it’s obvious (to me) that this is the case. it’s the same in many fields.

wack hip hop is all over the place. it still makes a lot of money, and is adequate for shaking your rump. 20 years from now however, about 0.5 per cent will still be listening to 50 cent, while i’ll still be bumping “Midnight Marauders”.
