One More Reason to love the Nikon D70

We had acquired dust on the lens of our Nikon D70. For weeks I”ve been trying to figure out how and where the root of the problem was. I figured it was behind this black thing inside of the lens, that I couldn’t get to, and thought i’d likely have to take it to a repair shop.

It helped tonight when i read the manual. Was very pleased to see that there was a feature, “Mirror Lift”, that is created for the very purpose of cleaning off any dirt on images! yowza. fixed a 1 month problem in 5 minutes. The manual is indeed Fine. ;)

spammed by a thankful yellow monkey

dear diary,
i’ve been getting comment spammed by a thankful chinese ape lately. apparently i’m not alone. I found it original, and amusiing. :) wordpress 1.5 is just fine, no external software, for comment spam killing. I often wonder why so many go through so many other measures to combat it. It takes patience (to see your “please moderate” queue grow–but that’s what the blacklist is for as well!:) other than that, not much else.

back to work for today.

Another great weekend

Tonight was fun. Our small group was meeting tonight, but only our family showed up at the Kendals. It ended up being great; getting to talk to the pops for a while, before his wife got home with the kids, as our kids were wreaking havoc in the playroom…as we were chatting we heard two distinct sounds of little pieces of something falling, and we just hollered in to make sure everything was cool, but for the most part ignored it. When we got in the room, there were puzzle pieces everywhere, from a puzzle they had been working on! So we spent the rest of the evening beginning to put together the puzzle. You never realize how much fun you have together putting together puzzles. A refreshing time. We all needed it; and I’m glad we got to hang together.

stupid css issue with clear:both

wrestling with an issue with clear: both…in mozilla, with this particular stylesheet i’m using, it sees fit to place a huge gap after the clear:both, and the rest of the content (hence the sidebar being split up like crazy). On IE, it’s doing what i would have expected, which you don’t see everyday.

i’m going to sleep. :(

jaylie’s rubber band + iphoto 5 is AWEFUL

jaylie’s rubber band [flickr]

man oh man iphoto 5 was definitely a downgrade. it’s a slow dog; it sloppily handles deletes in the UI, sometimes doesn’t delete what i had it delete while in slideshow mode, and worst of all (now this one at least cannot be blamed on it), the iphoto gallery plugin crashes it…so for now i’ll be using flickr (i’m too lazy to use gallery’s upload form). i’ll get the grip of globetrotters pics up in the gallery (plus some more from the “rubber band” set, when i get my gallery/iphoto issues worked out.

i’m so happy with the purchase of the big bright studio lighting.

tired tired tired and really should be sleeping.

UPDATE: die iphoto die–for arbitrarily without my permission, rotating my photos, after you had just displayed them properly!

using feedburner for my RSS now. i’m an RSS junkie. I read more content, and stumble upon less shady stuff than a browser — which reminds me…i wonder how pornography (and popups, any other “in your face” annoyances, and spyware for that matter) will make a way in the future direction of the web. I think we’re finally in the age of “agents” that had been talked about so much in the past–except now it’s better, because it’s not as censored and biased as some had originally speculated it would be.

Had lots of fun hanging out with friends, at the Harlem Globetrotters’ show/game. Not as magical as when i was a child, but when i was a child i didn’t have three of my own kids going buckwild with their friends.

Choicepoint

Funny, was *just* talking with wifey last night, about how in the world this is *not* bigger news than it was last evening–which was the first i had heard about it. I just about flipped when i heard it, mentioned as an apparent byline on King 5 last evening.

thanks dave w for bringing up the most quotable quote:

“Some are glossing right past the ChoicePoint fiasco.”
