Amazon.com Randomly Ordered Products for Me

What is this all about? A week ago, I had a package notice in my mail. I hadn’t been expecting anything, but since its around Christmas, it could have been a gift. The next day or so, I went to my apartment office to pick it up, and it was a box from Amazon.com. “hmmm maybe someone got me something from my wishlist”. I opened it up, and it was two things that I’m not interested in — Spiderman 2 DVD and U2′s “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb”, and an invoice, saying that $31.50 was “Paid By Visa”. What? I never ordered these things!

I went to Amazon.com to look at my order history, and sure enough, these items don’t even show up in my recently ordered items. The billing and shipping address are my own, however.

from the invoice:

*Returns Are Easy!*
blah blah blah http://www.amazon.com/returns

Yeah Amazon.com — I went there, and the order number assigned to me on this random order doesn’t exist. And I see *no way* to search by order number.

excuse my French, but Poop. I guess if my “Visa” hasn’t been charged $31.35 I will stop there.

I can think of a number of reasons why it happened; I’m hoping they’ve not done this often.

Gallery2

messing around with gallery2. i like, and really like the embedding features (from what i’m reading), and really liking the administration and setup. an iPhoto Gallery 2 plugin doesn’t exist, though, so i probably don’t want to fully migrate.

Can’t find any feed (RSS or Atom) support, however…will continue to look until i give up and try to

a) find out why they have not included it
b) find out if anyone is doing it (ahh this thread looks promising…)
c) worst case scenario–try to write something.

Why I will Really Never Make Money on the Internet

How to Really Make Money on the Internet With an Amazon.com Affiliate Site

The sites that I see that are good at this just look so dang cheesy.

My aesthetic won’t even go for it. The closest I’ve seen to something that I don’t mind advertising with are the Google Ads, and the occasional affiliate link within a blog post. I just haven’t gotten down how to advertise and still “look decent”. Even the website names the author suggests make me go ewww…

And it’s sad. I sold an old 25 Disc changer on ebay for far above cost by making my selling page look wacky like many of the power sellers (ebay’s templates are very corny looking) Whenever I sell product on ebay with a “normal” style–it never does nearly as well.

Butttt… for any of you who are more interested in money than aesthetic integrity (or if you aren’t cursed with taste)…The above article will probably make you some nice spare change.

To their credit, the author does mention in #7:

Make it pretty. Free templates for WordPress are available at *Not That Ugly*. Choose a style you like and then tweak it to suit your tastes and the theme of your site.

so maybe nowdays, aesthetics do count for something.

Snow!

[snow]

Snowing!

First they told me that i happened upon an unusually mild spring/summer/fall, then they said it doesn’t snow here (well it did once last year).

This really isn’t snow, though. This is snow.

props to tara for getting me addicted to the dooce effect. i use a variation of it on the images.

My iPod is degenerating, again.

I’ve had an issue with my iPod, that it started losing charge on the battery very quickly. Originally I could get about 4, maybe even 6 hours playing, without recharging. Then it got to the point that my 1:10 commute would be enough to run a “fully charged” battery down. So instead of having it in to Apple for service (I had had it serviced already for another issue, was out of warranty, and couldn’t stand to be away from it for a week) — I bought a replacement battery (they are about $10 less now!), and replaced it myself.

It is now Eventually (about 3 months), and now the battery’s up to the same hijinks. And now I have another problem…the LCD display on the iPod flickers, and is usually barely visible without me applying presure to my iPod. I have to squeeze my iPod now while navigating. :-(

Turning Blurry shots into something decent

Joy Dooced

I took the pictures sans flash, with not enough light. I didn’t have a steady hand and they came out hella blurry. However when you make them smaller, there’s nothing that a sharpen and dooce effect can’t make okay from poor shots (i liked my framing on the shots, however).
