Ordered a mac mini

Mac Miniordered a mac mini thursday. will use as an iPhoto server/DVD burning station. will be hooked up directly to the TV. ship time is 3-4 weeks (i thought they were out already), but they’ve been shipping everything else in pieces. so far a DVI cable and (free w/ rebate) printer has been shipped separately from the wireless mouse and keyboard. interesting. my plan is to pop it open and put more memory in myself. the $475 extra for 1Gig RAM is more than twice what you’d pay anywhere else. Ah. just noticed i ordered 512MB RAM. oh well.

Update: PVR Blog has an nice little blurb on Mac Mini’s use as a PVR. looks like i may be in business. :)

    Great article link. It’s always a sign when fairly well-to-do companies that existed cease to exist for seemingly no reason nowdays, that something’s up like a buyout (it happened with iWork)…

    I’m currently trying to research any Universal Remote control solutions that include being able to control the mini from the same, since this will replace our DVD player.

    I would be very interested to hear whether you manage to stick another RAM module in there – If it is possible, then that’s what I’ll do when I buy mine – Their prices are indeed ridiculous. And that article was incredible, that guy has some serious insight!

    I’m kinda considering picking one of these up to replace my work G4 (which is my old “home” G4…) but I’ve gotta see how much I can sell the work G4 for before I’ll know for sure.

    I wonder if the fact that it used to belong to Steve Wozniak will help?

    ordered a hard drive to sit with it. the mini will be our home file (pictures, music, eventually video) server, basically.

    Tara, i’d definitely juice the Woz factor for all its worth.

    Looks like a very nice Hard Drive – Good price too!

    Maybe a little big though :) – Almost as big as the mac mini?

    the drive got here yesterday :) it is probably about the size of the mini (which is on its way from china right now)…quite heavy, but still nicely small enough that it can be hidden somewhere within our entertainment centre :)
