My iPod is degenerating, again.
I’ve had an issue with my iPod, that it started losing charge on the battery very quickly. Originally I could get about 4, maybe even 6 hours playing, without recharging. Then it got to the point that my 1:10 commute would be enough to run a “fully charged” battery down. So instead of having it in to Apple for service (I had had it serviced already for another issue, was out of warranty, and couldn’t stand to be away from it for a week) — I bought a replacement battery (they are about $10 less now!), and replaced it myself.
It is now Eventually (about 3 months), and now the battery’s up to the same hijinks. And now I have another problem…the LCD display on the iPod flickers, and is usually barely visible without me applying presure to my iPod. I have to squeeze my iPod now while navigating. :-(
I always tend to be The Exception with any gadget/operating system i use. : – (
I do think part of the problem stems with myself getting around a problem with the iPod – IT HAS A PAUSE BETWEEN TRACKS. I’m a DJ, i love dj culture, and as such listen to a gang of mixes on my ipod. Continuous mixes. One of the ways of improving battery life:
Use compressed songs
iPod’s cache works best with songs of average file sizes (less than 9 MB). If your audio files are large or uncompressed (including AIFF format), you may want to compress them, or use a different compression method, such as MP3 or AAC, when importing them into iTunes. Also, consider breaking very long songs or tracks into shorter tracks that have smaller file sizes.
simply won’t work for me. if iPod had a decent way of playing songs without a pause in between, then the above would not be as much of an issue. The last sentence of their advice is just silly, and I can’t imagine that Apple in all seriousness is espousing that as acceptable (although based on what I have read, Apple tends towards Mooninite tendencies (”All we say and do is right”) when it comes to their product).
