Music Meme

I got tagged by Tara. let’s do this! This should be fun, because i’m probably gonna have to (at some point) give up a link or two so you can know just who the world half these guys are:)

Random 10:

From a random iTunes shuffle (entire library)…

  1. Allen Farnham – In a Sentimental Mood
  2. LaRue – He Is Lord (don’t think i’ve even heard this one!)
  3. Keith Sweat – How Deep Is Your Love (talk about bringning back MEMORIES)
  4. Ugly Duckling – Turn it Up
  5. Sharlock Poems – Left
  6. Braille – It Won’t Last (yes yes!)
  7. 100 Portraits and Waterdeep – Tender Mercy (one of my top 100 songs!)
  8. Da T.R.U.T.H. – Here and Noun(from an OK album…one of the not OK tracks IMO :)
  9. various – White Sands – from the “Soul Fire Sound Sampler” — which i stumbled upon while trying to figure out whatever happened to Soul Fire records–one of the dopest Funk 45 labels to exist in the past few years.
  10. Musiq – Solong – from “Juslisen” — not my favorite from the album–i need to remember to remove this one actually so it won’t kill my buzz while listening to a “Musiq” playlist :)

issues…

having some odd issues posting new content, and when a comment is posted.

in the middle of doing work work so it’ll be a bit before having it all worked out, but hopefully before nights end.

update–good, but not fully. upgraded to wp 1.5 — comments and posts work again. also tweaked appearance slightly. still need to get a few things back to fully “normal”, but nothing too big (not that any of this is a big deal anyway ;)

Jaylie Logs In!

Was just thinking about this again. Two nights ago, we went to an open house for our school. The last place we went was the computer lab.

My daughter logged in.

It was the cutest thing ever.

I often forget that she does know how to use a computer (she sometimes gets to go to NickJr.com when we’re on it), and I *know* she knows how to play the games, but the logging in thing (from the control alt delete to the whole username/password) was just the cutest, most precious thing I’ve seen so far this year. :)

The thing is, it’s not such a point of fascination with her as it is with me. She can do with or without it, it’s such a part of her existence. I think it’s so much more interesting for me for two reasons. The first and most obvious is that I like to program, design, and manipulate these things to get what I want out of them. The second is that I think there’s still a wow factor that she may not grow up with, since personal computers have just been around her all of her life.

That’s such a good thing.

how did EWF do it?

Listening to this Earth Wind and Fire greatest hits vol 1. I got so much EWF vinyl from growing up–I’d have to say that I prefer a well-produced all live instrumentation of groove of a sampled piece, with few exceptions.

This is why i love the people under the stairs production so well. This is why i prefer sampled hip hop over synthesized “Royalty Free” beats.

computer music is quickly dated.

even my favorite “techno/electronic” style music is music that is obviously a hybrid of sampled music (Roni Size, Pieter K).

Happy (Gave)birthday, Mom

I’d like to congratulate you on your 33rd anniversary of the day that you spent time pushing me out of yourself. I know i was a lot of work. :) I know i’ve been a lot of work as well. Thanks for taking care of me growing up, and especially for letting me make my own decisions in my life, never judging any of them *ever* (but of course always offering an opinion, which i appreciate :).

The check’s in the mail. ;-)

love,

Jon Marc.

Ordered a mac mini

Mac Miniordered a mac mini thursday. will use as an iPhoto server/DVD burning station. will be hooked up directly to the TV. ship time is 3-4 weeks (i thought they were out already), but they’ve been shipping everything else in pieces. so far a DVI cable and (free w/ rebate) printer has been shipped separately from the wireless mouse and keyboard. interesting. my plan is to pop it open and put more memory in myself. the $475 extra for 1Gig RAM is more than twice what you’d pay anywhere else. Ah. just noticed i ordered 512MB RAM. oh well.

Update: PVR Blog has an nice little blurb on Mac Mini’s use as a PVR. looks like i may be in business. :)
