The Incredibles!

We peeped The Incredibles this weekend.

In summary: Very Good Flick. I’m surprised at how much character interaction there is in the film. There’s a bunch of action for sure, but I’d have to say there’s more dialogue than your average adventure flick. It makes for a good little story, and I think it’ll aid in the longevity of the film.

The animation of course is Pixar Dopeness, so no complaints there. I love looking forward to each movie to see how well they do the hair.

I dig the little subtle(?) message to the kids about working together…they work best to defeat their foes when they use their complimentary gifts, and they do it well. They dole out the message by example, which is appreciated (I can’t remember once when they said anything to the effect of “see how much better we are when we work together?” they just do it).

Both our kids were attentive during the duration of the film (5 yo girl 2 yo boy), even with the lulls.

That makes two DVDs to pick up now when they drop, hopefully both by the time my birthday rolls around? (Napoleon Dynomite of course is the FIRST!)

This weekend—Imax 3D version of Polar Express yo!

Distortion to Worship (music)

Word. This morning was great. last evening i got to spin, and it went really well–it was also the first time our “group” played as a group (we’re not officially a group). It was a great supportive place to do so, since we were a bit rough around the edges.

This morning, we got to do it again, twice, for the 9 o’clock and 10:30 crowds, and it went much better than last night. :) Jazzy with the hip hop style, all “worship-style” music.

Of course I’m not sure, but i’m sure this was the first time that the beat from Distortion to Static was ever used at a sunday morning gathering.

I’m sooo inspirred to break out the MPC again.

Playing with Musicians

I’m going to be doing turntables for a band this weekend, and also at our church gathering Sunday. I usually get the “this is cool! this is interesting!” comments, and I expect them. What is always pleasant is the fact that I’m working with a group who is fully competent–wayyy more than myself, actually–and are able to assimilate to this new instrument in the band.

In short–I had an extremely fun time, and am greatly looking forward to several music sessions with these guys. There was exactly one person back home who i could jam with in any musical capacity. Now I’m at a place that is chock full of musicians. Its enough to make a brother cry tears of joy.

Jason–please move your family out here NOW.

Guest Blog — Jae Choi speaks on Homosexuality

Jae gave me permission to repost the following–it’s what i thought is a very insightful post in response to a Christian brother who is dealing with another young Christian brother who is struggling with thoughts of homosexuality, and its relation to his beliefs. This is one of the longest blog entries you’ll read here–mainly because I didn’t write it. ;) So many of us (christians alike) miss the point of our existence, and focus on our “problem” as the center. “What we are” becomes our identity. This is particularly timely given that last evening, wifey and I were at a workshop on interracial children. It was a great workshop–they spoke a bit on “identity”, and the letting our children “find their own identity”. While good, we wish that our children find their identity in nothing less than Jesus. Anything else leads to frustration.
