Just wanted to remind those who may not be in the know–November is Hip Hop History Month. Let’s take a second to honor a piece of many of our existences that I personally could not imagine living without.
okay done.
One good flick to see, is Beef II. I have not seen the first one, but this one has got me hunting for it. It’s a flick about what it says–”Beef”–static–conflict–between various “sects” of hip hop. How it started, and, thankfully much of the time, how it was squashed (ended).
I’m hoping to find the first one of this flick. It was good stuff–covering from the Roxanne Shante battles all the way up to D12/Eminem and Royce tha 5’9 Beef.
Those outside of the culture–pick it up if not only to get an outside view not presented fully through the traditional media outlets. While the Beef itself seems to always get the play…the squashing of beef is rarely portrayed. Even though it highlights many pieces of the culture that I’m not even favorable to–it’s all worth checking out. Probably two of the most interesting pieces is the Beef between Nelly and KRS-One, and the postscript to Roxanne Shante’s legend and rap career.
