HP Pavilion ze5385us tri-boot
To let anyone know, i’m successfully tri-booting my new laptop between Linux (RH9) Win2k server, and windows XP Home. i won’t go into details, but just so you know and have any questions about it, hit me up…
basically i have the win2k & XP home on the same partition; used a software called Change of Address to keep all my XP apps in a directory C:\appsXP, as well as changed a registry entry in my XP so that all new software gets installed in C:\appsXP, then installed Win2k Server afterwards, which in effect destroyed my booting into XP home so i had to reinstall XP home, but i just did a “repair” of the current installation, and voila–tri boot :)
the OS’s successfully share development tools i keep in my C:\dev dir. (eclipse, java SDK).
so to get into my windows OS’, Grub menu takes me there (where i choose between linux partition and “windows OS” partition as i named it), and the windows boot sequence lets me select between XP and win2k.
fun fun! so far so good.
why win2k too? i basically needed win2k server on this mug to run a full Blue Martini installation for my consulting joint.
the main frustration i have is that if/when you install XP Home again on your laptop from scratch (as opposed to using the destructive “system recovery disks” HP provides), you lose a bit of functionality and have to go hunting for drivers. it’s a pain, but at least now i have them all in one place should i need to do it again.
