neither of our kids have had problems sleeping through the night, for the most part. it was only recently that our 3 year old has decided that many nights she’d come and shack up with us in our room in the middle of the night. but by that time it’s easy–we don’t have to do any of the work (‘cept when she’s peed in the bed :( — lord lets hope this blog doesn’t remain through her teen years :) )

back from the vacatizzle
word, i’m back. check The Madisons website for the update. and, FTR, our last name is “madison” :). here are a few more pics i took out there that i thought were particularly fresh. i need to try to make some money off my kids lol.

This one was a little difficult in that it’s a macro shot, i have only auto-focus available, and jaylie isn’t the best “still-sitter”…but we pulled it off! :)

candid shot of jaden at the pool. i love black & white pics in good weather.
i spent a lot of time this ‘vacation’ thinking/planning/designing/thinking/writing/learning documentation for my jb software, as well as the jbml, and other things that jb wants to have, like session management. i came out of the vacation with some good todos for the software, and will try to implement the session managemen tomorrow, and keep the jbml on my hard drive until i get something that’s usable. (so far there will be two prepackaged modules–simple database select and RSS feed) i’ll probably keep the CVS tree updated though as i go along, so feel free to grab the code and take a look at the undone work.
As far as the Pocket Blog usage is concern–i didn’t even bother to try. :(
working in the medical field…?
In My Experience… | Ubiquity is a long way off. (17)
hmm…this is one more reason for me to consider working in the medical field–was just listening yesterday on NPR about HIPAA, doctor consultation via email, security, and the like…i was thinking “man i’d like to work with others who are helping these guys get their thoughts and tech straight” and the above post gets even more gears going in my head.
i dunno how those phone cams work but i would assume (and hope…my hopes have been dashed before in this area) that you’d be able to simply email a pic you took, so that takes care of that…
hmmm…yet again…the medical field never particularly excited me, ‘cos i didn’t think there were any interesting questions that i would want to investigate, but this weekend, and your post (and the broadening of my interests lately :) have helped a bit. so thanks Dan:)
outtie
welp, i’m gone for memorial day weekend, and hope to get my Pocket Blog working okay again–the doggone software hasn’t been updated since september, and it doesn’t work, and guy hasn’t released the source, so….man i wish i had more hours in a day sometimes to take on a new project :)
a reason for me to see “the matrix reloaded”?
While we decided not to boycott the matrix, we weren’t jumping out of our seats to check it out (i mean what else could they tell story wise–all we could imagine is more guns big whoop)–wifey & i had a nite out and checked X2 — which was as excellent a film as they make ‘em….JEAH! then i see this:
David Raynes: I am just a figment of my own imagination.
i have to respect a film that respects real computer use, particularly real Unix usage. hopefully this is a trend for future films.
To read tomorrow (or at least the article about it) — Hijacking .NET
yikes. good night for now.
UPDATE 5/22/03 – okay i’m not going to buy the book just now, but i guess i don’t know enough about .NET to know whether or not it matters that you can access private members (sounds a bit dodgy sorry) — i mean, given the proper access rights, you can do this in java, and this is what you even want or need to do sometimes, this is one use of reflection. In conclusion, this sounds like much ado about nothing–unless of course there’s some security that .NET assumes is not accessible with private members (in which case that security is compromised)….
confound it, i trusted a story about microsoft anything on Slashdot again. dumb sensational headlines…although i guess in this case the book title itself is the thing that’s sensational.

so so neat–funny ‘cos just this morning i was just thinking in my head if someone had created anything to create GUIs via XML (somewhere in my head i have an inkling that M$ does this w/ their .net framework :) and wanted to start a project that tinkered with that or something similar — this is a good way perhaps for me to try my hand at playing with this concept a little more…(brainstorming out loud) this could be a web service…fresh!
UPDATE: what do you know, i came across this this evening…builds GUI’s via XML. this guy is fast :D
Component Development for the Java Platform
Highly Recommended. I bought this book when i had first started at Whirlpool, thinking it may help, but I didn’t realize how relevant the topics would become later on, as i spent time writing software that was supposed to work for both an application server and an embedded java installation (OSGI 1.2). I am having several “AHA” moments while reading this now, and in some ways wished i could have finished reading this book first, then got to implement some/more of the practices discussed. I had to keep reminding myself though, “the software i’m writing is for demos, the software i’m writing is for demos…”, which is fun for what it is, but can be heart-wrenching when you want to do something “right”, and don’t have the time. :) Well i’m learning now that even when you do have the time, you miss things, and you learn, and you refactor, and you plan for sure, but nothing’s ever jussst right. wait i’m getting into another subject altogether–This book, so far, is a Good Book of Java Deployment Practices. (i’m gonna have to give a shout to the amazon.com reviewer who gave it a “disappointing” and try to let you know that a large part of component development is deployment — so the book is in fact aptly tittled.

if you’ve taken a look yet at the new Jb: Jaimbizzle software site (i moved it to facilitate the use of MT) i’ve started working on a markup that will do some of what the handlers do…basically i want to make it a little easier for folk to set up simple tasks using markup rather than writing code. i have a few ideas floating in my head, one specifically supporting XML-RPC (already i’m working on an example handler that uses the java xml-rpc libs) but really just have simple stuff going like message in and response..but i’m learning this just as i’m getting back to using/learning XML again :)
